New York’s “Vanguard Chapter” Honors Four

Celebrates the 37th Anniversary of Grenada's Ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC)

(BROOKLYN, New York): The New York Chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is proud to announce its 2024 celebration of the party’s 37th anniversary. This milestone event highlights the enduring legacy and continued relevance of one of Grenada's major political parties. The commemorative event will take place on Saturday, October 26 at the Caribbean Breeze Banquet Hall located at 276 Belmont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11207 from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Historical Significance
Founded in 1987, the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has played a crucial and significant role in Grenada’s democratic process for nearly four decades. The party has:

• Held power multiple times, including from 2008-2013
• Advocated for social democratic policies
• Championed economic development and social justice initiatives

Looking to the Future
Led by Attorney Dickon Mitchell, the charismatic and young party leader and prime minister, the NDC marks this important anniversary, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening Grenada, Carriacou and
Petite Martinique’s democratic institutions, promoting sustainable economic growth, while addressing climate change challenges facing the tri-island nation, especially in the recent aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
“We are honored to celebrate 37 years of the National Democratic Congress's historic contributions to Grenada's political landscape. This anniversary is not just about looking back, but also about reaffirming our
commitment to Grenada's bright future. It is about our commitment to working with our party and people to help Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique recover and rebuild after the ravages of Hurricane Beryl in
July. It is about embracing and promoting the “Transformation Agenda” set out by our party leader while honoring four hardworking foot soldiers from our Chapter, " said Nick Cox, Chair, NDC New York
Chapter.

The four outstanding honorees will receive the Chapter’s first-ever awards named for the NDC party stalwarts. The 2024 37th Anniversary honorees are:

  • The Nicholas Brathwaite Lifetime Achievement Award: Bernard Bourne
  • The George Brizan Community Service Award: Lloydris Joseph
  • The Tillman Thomas Champion of Democracy Award: Allan George
  • The Jerome Joseph Grassroots Leadership Award: Louisa Robinson

"The NDC NY Chapter invites all Grenadian-Americans, supporters, and those interested in Grenadian and Caribbean politics to join in this celebration of democracy and national progress,” Cox noted.
